This paper provides a revised dermal absorption value for benzophenone of <12.5%. We discuss the flaws and weaknesses of using old in vivo animal data. We demonstrate that gold standard dermal absorption testing is achieved using human skin in vitro. The interesting part of this work is that we deal with the mass balance losses by showing that they are due to test article volatility. This simple and effective volatility test can be used to identify volatile losses which in turn is used to confirm that a reliable test has been performed even when mass balance is not essentially complete.
