We are delighted to share this new paper published in Toxicological Sciences. We evaluated 14 chemicals for acute inhalation toxicity testing in 2 in vitro upper airway models (MatTek's human EpiAirway and rat EpiAirway). This has an important 3Rs contribution by showcasing a model to protect animals before in vivo testing to identify potential toxicities or to support dose range finding. There is also the potential to replace and certainly reduce the number of animals to be used in regulatory inhalation toxicity testing. Our paper also contributes to the confidence in the human in vitro NAMs by demonstrating the very impressive intra- and inter-laboratory variability of these test models.
Enjoy the read.
